Frequently Asked Questions

  • Of course it does! Even if someone is attending their first QH event, they are welcome to join as a member of the QH community. There are no membership dues or fees to consider yourself a member of the community. Just show up and have a good time!

  • No! Anyone who identifies as LGBTQIA+ may participate in these events. However, many people in the QH community do practice an abstinence program. It is our hope, and out of the respect of those who do, that people who do not practice total abstinence to please refrain from attending QH events under the influence. The goal of QH is to provide events that are free from alcohol and drugs.

  • Although we strive for QH events to be 100% free from alcohol, this may not always be the case. Please take this example into consideration:

QH holds an event at a bowling alley. There is a concession stand that sells alcoholic beverages (beers, mixed drinks, etc.). The expectation is that people who attend this QH event will be present to bowl; not to drink. Even so, we can not stop a willing individual of age from purchasing an alcoholic beverage.

Our belief is that with a strong and supportive community, a desire to drink will be as diminished as possible. If someone is experiencing cravings, it is highly suggested for that person to speak to another member of QH. Expressing this issue to a peer can sometimes be the best way to overcome cravings.

  • A 12 step program is anonymity based, abstinence based, and follows a particular guideline of principles and traditions. While QH was born from a 12 step mindset, we recognize that not everyone identifies as an ‘alcoholic’ even if they are sober. There are many paths to recovery just as there are many reasons why someone would want to attend a QH event free of alcohol and other substances.
